Obituary for Paul Albert Brooks

Paul A. Brooks, 96, a life-long Rutherfordian, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2014. He was born on Maple Street to Joseph and Anna (nee Hangartner) Bobrowski in 1918.
Mr. Brooks retired in 1982 from Teaneck High School where he had been an English teacher and Reading Specialist. After retirement, he was a home instruction teacher for a number of South Bergen school districts. Prior to entering the teaching profession, he had been a quality control supervisor at Curtiss-Wright Corp., Wood-Ridge.

Mr. Brooks held degrees from New York University (B.A.) and Montclair State University (M.A.) and was a member of both schools' alumni associations and the retired NEA, NJEA, BCEA teachers associations.

He had been a Trustee and Historian of Boiling Spring Lodge No.152, F.&A.M. where he had received the Distinguished Apron Award for his services to Masonry. As Lodge Historian he wrote feelingly of Masonry and its contributions to the elevation of brotherhood and charity. He was honored recently for his 65th anniversary as a Freemason. Mr. Brooks was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Rutherford, a World War II Army veteran and member of American Legion Post No. 109, the Old Guard of Rutherford, the Rutherford Democratic Club, the NJ Poetry Society, 55 Kip Center, Starfish, the Advisory Council of the Rutherford Adult School, the Rutherford Historical Preservation Committee, and a charter member of the Rutherford High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a former member of the Rutherford Community Policing Unit, Wisdom Lodge No. 300, F.&A.M., and the Polish University Club of New Jersey.

He will be deeply missed by his two daughters Barbara Brooks and her husband Kerry Langston of Basking Ridge, NJ, Diane Brooks and her husband Stephen Solomon of Westhampton, NY, and his impressive grandchildren Glenn, Waverly, Kiera, Milli, and Avery.
Mr. Brooks is predeceased by his beloved wife Doris (nee Melber) and his siblings Dolly Ruf of Rutherford and Russell J. Bobrowski of New Orleans.


Funeral Monday gathering 9:30am for 10:30am Prayer Service in the Collins Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Imterment in Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst.

Family will receive friends and loved ones on Sunday 4 to 8pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the RHS Athletic Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 192, Rutherford, NJ 07070.
