Obituary for Judith "Judy" Schmitt (Salata)
Judith “Judy” Schmitt, of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania, formerly of Rutherford,NJ, died peacefully at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital at 5:05pm Sunday, July 12th, 2015. She was 69 years old. Judy was born October 25th,1945 in Lyndhurst, NJ to the late Joseph and Cecilia Salata. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Franz Schmitt of Wyalusing, PA, her brother Joseph Salata and his wife Pat of Manchester NJ, her sons, Christopher of Cape Coral, Fl. and Franz Jr. of Rutherford, NJ, and her daughter Kristen of North Wales, PA. She also leaves behind her beloved granddaughters, Abigail & Ellie Schmitt along with several nieces and cousins.
Judy resided in Rutherford for 32 years before moving to Wyalusing in 2000. She spent her years as a hairdresser and homemaker raising and caring for her 3 children. Judy loved to cook and was active in the local PTA as well as the East Rutherford Senior Center where her late parents resided. She also enjoyed playing volleyball and bowling with her many friends.
Judy was always involved in her local Church. Recently, Judy had devoted so much of her free time to her local Parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Wyalusing, even
becoming a Eucharistic Minister. Her faith and belief in God had given her strength and courage throughout her journey.
Funeral Saturday 9:30am from the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford for 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford followed by Holy Cross Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Friday 4 to8pm.
