Obituary for Norman Mac Phail

Norman  Mac Phail


Norman Mac Phail, 80, a resident of Rutherford passed away Friday, July 31st, 2015. Born in Kearny in 1935 to William & Catherine Mac Phail. He was a graduate of Kearny HS and received a Masters degree from FDU.
He proudly served the US National Guard. Norman was a History Teacher for 34 years in Kearny High School retiring in 1997 and was a member on the Rutherford Board of Education. He was an assistant Boy Scout leader and he was also very involved in his Church. He enjoyed gardening as a past time. His grandchildren were most important to him and he loved spending time with them.

Norman is survived by his beloved wife Carol (nee Kennedy), his devoted son Kent and longtime companion Sue, his daughter Lauren and husband Ben Cowles, his grandchildren, Abram and Willa, his sister- in-law Anne Mac Phail and many nieces & nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, William.

Funeral will be held on Wednesday gathering 9:45am for 10am Service in the Rutherford Congregational Church, 251 Union Ave., Rutherford.
Interment in Arlington Cemetery, Kearny.
Family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4pm and 7-9pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
